The second-hand marketplace Members Share Frustration Regarding Sizing Updates
Members of the platform have expressed outrage following a change that caused listings displaying inaccurate size information.
The second-hand shopping app has updated its sizing categories for women's and children's garments failing to inform all shoppers about the modification.
Online Platforms Backlash
Many shoppers and sellers are expressing on platforms stating that platform listings now display a modified sizing category versus the original listing because of the remapping.
Vinted explained the revised method more closely matches similar services.
It has advised users to check their listings and update the measurements by hand where appropriate, which has left users frustrated.
Sizing System Changes
Before the change, the sizing featured a single numeric size and a letter, such as S/8 or M/10.
The new system has a letter and a range such as S/UK 8-10.
With some products, the measurements have been reclassified - such as a large size was formerly size 12 but is now a UK 16-18.
Member Experiences
A fashion influencer, who produces content about larger sizing, explained the modification "makes transactions more difficult".
"Rarely do manufacturers list XL as sizes 20-22," which is what Vinted now does.
Stephanie Gallen, from Glasgow, explained products she uploaded on Vinted with size 14 labels were appearing on the platform as larger sizing 20-22.
"If buyers measuring 20-22 acquire them they will likely be quite upset," she stated.
Manual Updates
Another shopper, based in Derby, stated she felt frustrated due to the update requiring manual adjustment the measurements for "each individual item".
"Personally, this is quite irritating, since I have chronic health issues and selling on Vinted has been paramount following partial earnings loss," she said.
Marketplace Information
The app has more than 100 million users, with 18 million British users.
It has become a favored option compared to resale services such as eBay and Depop.
This isn't the first time when a surprising modification to the app has proved unpopular: previously, the platform withdrew an update to its shipping options due to shopper criticism.
