During the night, Russian missile and drone strikes have caused blackouts in large parts of Ukraine's capital, the Ukrainian capital.

A number of civilians were hurt while local people in eastern districts were left without electricity and dealt with disruption to water systems, per reports from city officials.

At the same time, a young boy was killed in a distinct assault in the southeastern region in the country's south-east, according to regional authorities.

Moscow has escalated strikes on energy facilities over the past few days, while the country's government has requested "substantial measures" from allies to apply pressure on Russia.

"The necessity is not superficial actions but firm measures - from the US, European nations and the G7 - in providing air defence systems and implementing sanctions," mentioned in a online statement.

Authorities reported that 450 drones and over thirty rockets struck the country's power systems, labeling such strikes as "strategic and deliberate" and against "essential services" as temperatures become colder.

Government representatives said Russia was "inflicting a massive strike" and repair crews were striving to restore power.

A wave of strikes hit energy infrastructure and apartment buildings in the capital.

Several of the people injured in the attacks on the city have been taken to hospital, per statements from local officials.
